Toni Catany was born in Lluchmayor (Mallorca, Spain) in 1942. Self-taught he lives in Barcelona since 1960 and started working as a freelance photographer in 1967, doing travel stories for “La Vanguardia” and “Destino”. Since his first exposition in 1972 he participated in more than a hundred individual and collective shows all over the world. His work has been shown in Spain, France, U.K., Switzerland, Italy, Greece, USA, South America, Morocco, Australia and Japan. His personal work has been published in books: Natures Mortes: 1987, reprinted 1995 (Prize for best photo-book at 1990 Primavera Fotográfica, Barcelona), Flowers of Live: 1990, published in Japan, La meva Mediterrània: 1990 (Prix du livre, Rencontres Internationales Arles, 1991 Soñar en Dioses (Dream of Gods) 1993, Obscura Memòria 1994. His work can be found in uncountable private and public collections around the world. In 2003 he receives the National Award of Photography by the Spanish Ministery of Culture.
